Re-envision Public Safety

We demand our city re-envision public safety to address the root causes of violence and to center transformative healing and justice.

What We Know

  • Policing accounted for approximately $172M or 36% of the city's FY21 General Fund budget in comparison to the 0.2% given to Health and Human services.

  • STL budgets one SLMPD employee for every 160 residents.

Our Vision

Re-envision Spin Off Units

  • like Traffic, Drug Enforcement, Domestic Abuse, Juvenile, and Internal affairs into departments like Streets, Health, Human Services, and Personnel.

Re-envision the Role Civilians Play

  • by empowering civilian staff trained in trauma informed case management to interview victims and draft incident reports.
